How PDI lottery fits into your accounting

Lottery is one of the items most often recorded wrongly in a gas station's books. Most of what comes in belongs to the lottery, not to you. PDI is a back-office system for gas stations and c-stores, and it reports lottery separately from other sales. Confirm the exact reports in your setup with your PDI representative.

What PDI shows

Lottery sales and payouts are reported on their own lines, apart from store items. That separation is what lets you keep them out of income.

What is yours and what is not

Most of the sales amount is held for the lottery and settled with it on a schedule. Your income is the commission you earn, not the full sales amount.

How it should look in the books

Sales and payouts go through a liability account. The commission is recorded as income. The settlement to the lottery clears the liability.

What goes wrong

When lottery is counted as sales, revenue is overstated, margin looks wrong, and the amount owed to the lottery is not tracked.

How to use this page

To see which lottery numbers to pull, go to the lottery reports. To see what goes wrong, go to where it goes wrong. If you want a team to handle it, what we do covers it.

Next steps

What we do with your PDI lottery numbers

1

Separate lottery from sales

Sales and payouts go to a liability account, not income.

2

Record the commission

The commission you earn is booked as income.

3

Match the settlement

Payments to the lottery are matched to the amount owed.

4

Watch the balance

The liability is checked each month so it does not drift.

FinTruction · Construction Clients

Proof from our construction brand

Real US-based contractors. Same team, same operational discipline that we now bring to gas stations. Construction is a different vertical - but the muscle (multi-stream books, cost reconciliation, niche specialization) is the same one stations need.

"They didn't just record transactions and call it a day. They built a custom chart of accounts around how a remodeling company actually runs, did a full catch-up on years of bookkeeping inside QuickBooks Online, and now stay on top of my monthly bookkeeping and payroll."

Oniel Campbell Oniel Campbell
Founder, Moonz Contracting

"Sahil and his team have been handling the bookkeeping and job costing for my painting business. They've done a great job cleaning up my books, using integrations to give me accurate, timely job costing and solid weekly data. Reliable, and the team is very detailed."

Carl Moore

"They rebuilt the whole thing from the ground up, with real job costing, WIP, and retainage."

Owner, Hearth & Haus

"They set the accounts up properly first, then cleaned up everything I never entered."

Rolian Rolian
Owner, Overtime Electric

"When I came to them I had no financial structure in place at all. No job costing, no WIP tracking, books were behind, no real way to tell if any job was actually making money. They came in, did a full cleanup, and set up job costing and WIP tracking inside QuickBooks."
