Modisoft End of Day Report: What to Check and How It Reaches Your Books

A Modisoft owner can see the day on a phone, but a figure on a screen is not a record. This page covers how to turn the daily close into a saved report, which checks to make before you rely on it, and how it reaches your bank and QuickBooks Online.

Quick answer

What is the Modisoft end of day report and what should I check?

It is the report produced when a Modisoft store closes the business day, totaling fuel, departments, lottery and tax by tender. Save a copy for every day, check cash against the deposit and cards against the processor, and do not mistake one shift report for the whole day.

The Modisoft daily close, from phone check to saved record

Modisoft is cloud-based and lists daily reconciliation, reporting and mobile apps among its features, so many owners look at the day the next morning from a phone. Which features you have depends on your plan, so confirm yours with Modisoft. We are not part of Modisoft and do not provide access to it. This page is about turning that morning look into a record your books can use.

The morning look

The quickest check is to open yesterday's totals and see whether they look normal for that day of the week. It is a good habit, but it is a glance, not a record. A phone screen will not show you next month what was there today, and it will not prove a figure to an accountant.

Save the close

For the books, export or save the end of day report for each day. That one file is what every figure in QuickBooks should trace back to. When a number is questioned months later, the saved file settles it quickly, and without it you may have to rebuild the day from scratch.

What its daily reconciliation covers

A daily reconciliation inside the system compares what the register recorded with what the system expects. It does not compare cash and cards with your bank. Treat it as a check on the store side only. The bank side still needs a separate match against deposits and the card statements.

Shifts inside the day

If your store runs several shifts, a shift report is part of the day, not the whole day. File the day's report, not a single shift. Filing only one shift leaves out the sales and cash of the others, and the books will then look short for no clear reason.

What is not on it

Card fees, deposit timing and rebates arriving outside the register are not in the daily close. Those show up later on bank and vendor statements. A rebate that arrives by check or credit has no matching sale in the close, so it needs to be recorded from the paper that came with it.

How to use this page

The lines worth reading are in the lines to check. The usual slips are in where it goes wrong. If you would rather hand it over, see what we do. Build the habit of saving first and reading second, then it takes only minutes.

What we do with your Modisoft closes

1

Collect a saved report for every day

We work from exported reports, not screenshots or memory.

2

Go one step past the daily reconciliation

We match cash, card and fleet totals to deposits and settlements.

3

Separate shifts from days

Shift reports are tied back to the single day they belong to.

4

Flag the odd days

Missing days and large differences are listed for you.

Where a Modisoft daily close goes wrong

Read, never saved

Numbers are checked on a phone and nothing is kept.

Trusting the system's balance

Modisoft says the day balances and the bank is never checked.

A shift filed as the day

One shift report is saved in place of the full day.

A day left open

Sales slide into the next day.

Changes after the close

A correction is made later but never reaches the saved report.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

It is the report produced when a Modisoft store closes the business day. It totals the day by fuel, store departments, lottery and tax, and by how customers paid.
The steps depend on your Modisoft plan and setup, so ask Modisoft or your reseller. We do not provide access to Modisoft, and we work from the reports it produces.
Modisoft lists mobile apps, but what you can see depends on your plan. Save or export the report as well, because a figure on a screen is not a record.
It means the register agrees with the system. It does not mean the cash, cards and deposits agree with your bank, which is a separate check.
No, the close covers sales and tenders. Processor fees only appear on the processor statement, so they are booked from there.
Usually the drawer was counted differently, some cash reached the bank later, or sales fell on another business date. We find which one it is for each gap.
No. Your Modisoft reports and your QuickBooks file are enough.

"Sahil and his team have been handling the bookkeeping and job costing for my painting business. They've done a great job cleaning up my books, using integrations to give me accurate, timely job costing and solid weekly data. Reliable, and the team is very detailed."

"They set the accounts up properly first, then cleaned up everything I never entered."

Rolian Rolian

"When I came to them I had no financial structure in place at all. No job costing, no WIP tracking, books were behind, no real way to tell if any job was actually making money. They came in, did a full cleanup, and set up job costing and WIP tracking inside QuickBooks."
